Meet Paul LaRue: A Man Unafraid to Use His Power

Blogger’s note: Today, you’ll hear from Paul “Roo” LaRue, antagonist for Operation Silver Star and a man with power. Learn about what makes him tick and what his worries are.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I’m a New Orleans native, grew up there, went to college there. I now live there with my beautiful wife, Tina, and Tripp and Lucy, my two kids. I’m also former Army, spent several years in the Special Forces where I deployed to the sandbox called Iraq a few times. I served with distinction. Once I got out, I got married and became Chief Operating Officer of LaRue International Transport. We transport anything and everything that’s not alive. Let’s just say that includes illegal arms transport and dealing and leave it at that.

Name three significant events that have happened to you.

I have to say my time in the Army is one of them. We grew tight, my guys and me. That’s where I got my nickname, Roo, for the one time when a kangaroo kicked me during a drunken boxing match with him. We were training with the SAS teams in Australia when it happened. That’s also where I met Cajun Man, better known as Butch Addison to you. He was my gunny when I was CO of my team.

I also entered into political office about five years ago. I mean, I’d done everything else. Frat boy in college, cum laude when I graduated. Decorated Army officer. Now COO of LaRue International Transport. State representative. What was left but to run for governor? And then, maybe after I’ve been governor for a few years, I’ll try my hand at the White House.

When I was in the Army, my team and I got into some scrapes. I wish I could say I brought everyone home. Unfortunately, I didn’t. In 2009 when we were embedded in a village in northern Iraq, I lost a guy. Nearly lost Cajan Man too, first from an arm wound where he nearly bled out, then from accusations that he’d colluded with enemy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Then I did lose him when he got out of the Army shortly after that.

What blind spot do you have?

Probably the impact my thirst for power has on others. I can tell you that Tina, my wife, and I haven’t been as close lately. I chalk it up to campaigning and working full time. You’ll have to wait and see regarding the rest of it. But let’s make one thing clear. The governor’s mansion is mine, not matter what.

What do you want us to learn from Operation Silver Star?

Kind of what I said up there. I have ambition. I admit to that. And I will sweep away anyone and anything that opposes me. I’ve got the power to do so, and I’m not afraid to use it.
