Thanksgiving 2020 Gratitude Challenge
by Jennifer Haynie @JenniferHaynie1
Thanksgiving week is here. One thing I like to do on Thanksgiving Day is what I call a Gratitude Challenge. What I do is in my journal, list out a hundred things for which I’m grateful.
What? 2020 has been a crappy year, right? I’ll not disagree on that. It has been. But that doesn’t mean that God hasn’t poured out the blessings. He has. Those blessings are out there. We just have to look harder and dig deeper this year to find them.
Here are ten that I came up with:
- The great, mild weather we’ve had, both in the spring and the fall when we needed it the most
- The beautiful trees and their leaves
- The chance to go kayaking on Friday
- The ability to write
- The friends I have who are encouragers
- I’m well and healthy
- The chance to relieve stress through exercising
- My husband
- Having church outside
- Beautiful sunsets
I came up with these pretty quickly, but I know I’ll be digging down into my memory and soul for the rest. I’ve learned that when I seek out those blessings and give thanks, gratitude swells. And when gratitude swells, negativity gets pushed out.
I think that this year, we especially need to give thanks.
Pull out that pen and paper. Number one through a hundred, and see where it takes you.
